The project called for the design of a gallery to house a permanent collection of sculptures from a single artist on a site in East Austin. I chose to exhibit seven sculptures by Richard Serra.
The structure is a simple concrete box that is open at the top to allow in light. Partition walls isolate each piece and experience. The giant shade structure, supported by large custom glulams, ties the gallery with the café, bookstore and administrative programmatic elements which are separated by a breezeway.
